Old Davis Hospital
Statesville NC. Closed sometime around 1984-1985. I find some sources that say part of the original wing is still in use, and as always, I’ve found lots of sites that claim the place is haunted. I’m not sure about either, as I have never personally been here (yet anyway). From the information I got from our good friend over at AbandonedNC, he was granted permission to enter, and so that may be a possibility if you went through the proper channels.

Abandoned Nursing Home
Aberdeen, NC. Some sources are saying this is in Aberdeen, others say it is in Pinehurst, NC. Behind Flooring America Co. and across from the ABC Store. There is also an abandoned 2 story house on the back of the property, just a short walk from the facility. And of course…it is reputably haunted.

Southern Railway Roundhouse
Greensboro, NC. Some sources are saying this place has been “demolished” but on the same page they go on to say that the historical society is considering turning it into a museum. Hmm…I believe this building is still standing, and would definitely be worth the trip, especially considering all the other good things I’ve heard about Greensboro.

V.A. Hospital
Asheville, NC. It’s anybody’s guess as to when this place closed down, but the site where I got the photo suggests it was sometime in the 60’s. Not really sure, but security looks tight, as most of the photos I have found seemed to be from the outside of the fence. I don’t think this would be a good site for beginners, but a small group of experienced Urb Exers might be able to pull this off with the right timing and resources.

Fertilizer Co. and Weigh In Station
New Bern, NC. This is one of my favorite sites of all time, as you can see from the gallery. I have been to this place twice, and planning a third trip soon. It is a great place for beginner’s because there are multiple points of entry, security seems pretty lax and it is a good location in general with a wide variety of things to explore. The main silo building, office building, storage (?) areas and the actual weigh in station, plus another smaller silo area. Towards the back left side of the property there is also an old railroad trestle running across the river, and a couple of partially submerged rail cars in the water. Be careful though, there are hunks of concrete hanging from rebar and a massive hole in the ground near the weigh in station.

Lakeside School
Eden, NC. Closed in 1989, it was set on fire in April, 2011. I am not sure if the building is still standing, how much damage was done by the fire, etc, but judging by some of the photos I have found on Flickr it looks really really awesome. If anyone has any info on this I would greatly appreciate it.

Francis Garrou High School
Valdese NC. Don’t know much about this place except that it is in a very small town and that it looks cool.

Cannon House at Stonewall Jackson Training School
Concord NC. This was a place for juvenile criminals in order to keep them separate from the adults. Apparently it is one of the sites in North Carolina where sterilization was performed on troubled teens to prevent them from passing on their issues. (WTF?) Didn’t find many photos of the interior, I don’t know if that means security is tight (doesn’t appear to be, several windows are busted out) or if it’s just an untapped location.

DeJarnette Sanitarium
Staunton VA. Not in NC, but close enough it might be worth the drive. Apparently there are two separate asylums here, one for children and one for adults. I don’t know much about it, but there seems to be a good bit of information on the web about it.

Bridgeton Elementary School
Bridgeton, NC. There are five main buildings to this school and it's in a nice quiet neighborhood set away from the main road. I wasn't able to get an estimated closure date on this, but from the looks of things it has been out of commission for awhile.

Ice Service Inc.
Asheville NC. This place closed down in 2000, but looks like it was in rough shape even before then. Apparently security isn’t very high even though it is close to a main road. Looks like it may be worth the trip.

Bellemont mill
Bellemont, NC. Built in 1875 the mill closed sometime around 1949. It is near the Alamance river, and there is evidence that there used to be a dam there. There is a complete lack of security, and its seems that explorers have no trouble just walking right up to it. Looks like it might be worth the trip, though I suspect there is probably asbestos here.

Bynum manufacturing co.
Bynum, NC. Built in 1872 and closed in 1986, this place and the surrounding areas look really interesting (this is one I would personally love to see) Security is lax, there is an old wooden bridge downstream from here, and then the Bynum dam is upriver just past the new bridge. Apparently there is water underneath this building, and it looks like it might be a bit on the treacherous side.
